This afternoon, we had a visitor from Heather. Heather lives in our local area and runs workshops to help children reflect upon their journey through primary school.
We started off by thinking about what a journey is and our personal achievements- big and small. We took part in a breathing exercise, considering our senses. This activity gave us the opportunity to think about the importance of taking a moment to stop and reflect.
We then took part in an icebreaker activity- where we each considered the things we like and the things we dislike.
We considered our emotions at different stages and ranked them based upon given scenarios.
Next, we listened to the story of ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ and actively added parts of the story to a caterpillar. As the caterpillar grew, it changed. Eventually metamorphosis of a butterfly takes place and the caterpillar transforms into something completely different and new. This led us into a brilliant discussion where we thought about our own journeys and the transformations that may take place in our lives. We are all different, we are all unique. We have each been given different talents and gifts and each of us have the opportunity to move forward and enjoy using these gifts and talents to enlighten our lives.
We listened to a range of songs and considered how we felt. We listened to happy songs, sad songs, funny songs and angry songs. Then we were each given a musical instrument to create our own music in each style. We thought about how the music we created was unique- just like us. Heather reminded us that we should use unique gifts and talents to celebrate being us as after all, there is only one of us so we should try to be the best version we can be.
After this, we created a big thought shower filled with ideas about what makes each of us unique. Heather is using our ideas to help us create a big project depicting our unique gifts and talents.
